Trees are poems that earth writes upon the sky ~ Kahlil Gebran Trees are the closest concept to the element of wood. We can look to the trees for a lesson in standing tall by staying rooted, yielding to the winds of life by being flexible and agile while keeping our gaze upward and forward. The winds of life can change unexpectedly and our flexibility can be a strength when needed. When balanced, the wood element is strength and flexibility, the ability to yield and be durable. It is birth, growth, development and organisation. When out of balance, we can feel indecision, frustration, irritability and even anger. Associated with the Liver and its partner organ the Gallbladder, we can use yoga to harmonise the wood element. Some of my favourite yin shapes include; Twisted Roots, Bananasana and Shoelace. Which is your favourite?

What an amazing four days spent immersed in the energy of sound🎵 Ute @soundrelaxation has created such a beautiful space in Margaret River for her own offerings and to home the @peter_hess_academy_australia I can’t wait to share the gift of Sound Massage 🧡 I have also added to my collection of instruments and will be offering group Sound Meditations soon. Have a gorgeous day ☀️✨

So what is Ujjayi Pranayama? ▫️Ujjayi: Victory, conquest or triumph over ▫️Pranayama: Prana – life force, breath; Yama – control, restraint, regulation A conscious breath regulating technique; Ujjayi breath is where you breathe in and out of the nose with the lips gently closed, emphasis is in the back of the throat (constriction of the epiglottis). You can feel the breath gently stroke the back of the throat as you inhale and exhale, it is even and smooth. The restriction of the throat gives Ujjayi its audibility and it’s commonly known name “the ocean breath”. Ujjayi breath is the sound of the ocean, a hollow whisper of a shell held to the ear and the warm breath fogging up a cold mirror. Ujjayi breath brings energy and heat to the body, a useful tool to use to conquer ourselves or meet the challenges of a dynamic practice.

In each moment the fire rages, it will burn away a hundred veils. And carry you a thousand steps toward your goal. ~ Rumi Journey to the centre of yourself, accepting what you find there, good or bad. Arriving with acceptance, loving yourself wholeheartedly; strengths, vulnerabilities, passions and pains. Harmonising the fire element in this mornings Yin Yoga practice by gently targeting our heart and small intestine meridians. Our fire element is the ruler of our spirit, uniting us with all things and represents universal love, peace and belonging. When our fire element is balanced we; 🔥live our passions and follow our dreams 🔥give and receive love freely 🔥trust readily with clear boundaries 🔥focus on our strengths 🔥live abundantly with joy and freedom Does your fire burn brightly or weakly?

Adho Mukha Savasana or Downward Facing Dog Pose is one of the most recognisable asana. I still recall over 15 years ago in my first yoga class, the teacher telling the class that while this pose may feel challenging for a while, it will eventually feel like home. You will come here to re-centre the mind and re-energise the body while experiencing a grounding and lifting sensation at the same time. Still to this day, her voice is in my head each time I land in downward dog, I am gently reminded of the alignment of the pose and how the opposition of alertness and relaxation coexist on the mat. So next time you draw energy up from the connection to the earth through your hands, take a soft bend the knees and lift your sit bones to the sky, know that more often you find yourself here, the more of an opportunity you have to also call this place home.
